Believing The Truth

"Lies Women Believe and the Truth That Sets Them Free"

By Nancy Leigh DeMoss

This is the book we are using for this years study at our "Renew your Mind" Bible Study. I am very excited about this study, because I think the Lord is bringing new life back into it and many lives are going to be changed.

I am also excited to bring life back to this blog. I started this back in 2008 when the bible study began. My hope was, and is again, that we can continue the conversation, and invite others to join in who cannot attend the monthly meetings. Also there is only so much time at a meeting, and so much great conversation. That it can be challenging to touch on all the points in a chapter.

So any way, about the study...
I love how this study flows so nicely with our theme, "Renew Your Mind". It is so important to stay in God's word so we can grow and be transformed to cultivate the Mind of Christ.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Basically this verse teaches us that we need to stop allowing  the world to tell us how to think, and let the word of God form our thoughts. Unfortunately we are already corrupted, you see, you and I have been deceived, and we don't realize it (hence deception), unless we are be transformed by the renewing of our mind.  In this study we are urged to stop mindlessly accepting whatever we see, hear, read, etc. Instead view everything in the light of God's Word.

Lies hold us captive, but the truth will set you free.

Here is some more good reading about having the mind of Christ:  (1 Corinthians 2:10-16)

Let's Talk

Please comment below on some of these discussion topics:

  1. Our first question in the work book asked us to read John 10:10. Are you experiencing the abundant life Jesus came to give, or to think you are just existing, coping, surviving, or struggling along? Explain.
  2. In another question we are asked to read John 8:31-36. What do you think Jesus meant when He talked about being free? How do you know He did not mean being free to do anything we want to do?

So I was reading that the reason we may not be experiencing the Abundant Life is because we believe lies, what do you think about that.

Abundant Life: I was struggling with fully understanding the definition of “Abundant Life”.
I was trying to wrap my brain around this why have I not have an abundant life with Jesus. Why am I so focus in the things I do not have. Why is my though not SOPHRON/Sound minded? It boiled down to selfishness and pride which lead me to stinking thinking I had to and continue to redirect my negative worldly perspective to what truly God wants for me. It is hard, but I am moving forward every moment, I am seeking HIM.
I understood on Saturday 9/7/13 Abundant Life in Christ is living a life under HIS covering even if I do not have my heart’s desire. In addition, I am to accept and live content w/ what the Lord has given me. I also realized I needed to be extremely careful in what I allow to bring in my home such as TV programs and music. As I am growing I am seeing God is unveiling the lies I held so dear to my heart which again, were lies.

It amazes me how damaging lies are, and how many I have believed.

I have asked this question, as I have heard many others express the difficulty in experiencing the Abundant life. It is that we believe the lies the world tells us that we need to keep up with the jones'.

From my own experience in seeking the abundant life, one of the things that has helped me most is practicing to have an "attitude of gratitude" In every circumstance it is possible to find something to be grateful for. It takes mental discipline and constantly "getting over myself" but it is possible and very rewarding. Of course I have to practice this daily, because we won't be perfected until we see His face!
